The mixture came together easily. The pastry I made was just right, neither too wet nor too dry. This I rolled out flat, before spreading the fig filling over the top. The whole combination was then rolled up into the classic roly-poly, before brushing with a beaten egg. For this, I had no pastry brush so I improvised with some rolled-up kitchen paper, which worked surprisingly well.
